EDUCATING THE FUTURE
The Pajaro Valley Aviation Academy presented certificates to scholarship applicants who have completed their aviation training. The event was held in conjunction with the Watsonville Regional Airport Promotion's annual fund raising dinner. The honorees present were Nelson Fernandez, who earned his private pilot certificate; Jennifer Hubbell, for completing her private pilot training and instrument flight rules rating; Scott Ebersole, for completing his multi engine rating; and Marriah Palmer for completing both a Jet Type Rating and Airline Transport Pilot certificate. Those not present were Maricela Ortiz and Aaron Osbrink, both of whom earned their private pilot licences, and Chris Pitter who received the tools necessary to acquire his Airframe and Powerplant mechanics license. Many of these recipients attend college and work while pursuing their aviation training.

The Pajaro Valley Aviation Academy (PVAA) was established to help local youth pursue careers in aviation by providing scholarships for education in the aviation field, ranging from aircraft maintenance to pilot training. We are not a flight school, but we grant scholarships. The Pajaro Valley Aviation Academy is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization located at the Watsonville Airport. All donations to the academy are fully tax deductible. The directors represent various aviation organizations in the Pajaro Valley, as well as members from the community-at-large. Since its inception in 2000, The PVAA has provided more than $135,000 in scholarships from Private Pilot training to an Airline Transport Pilot certificate.  Many of the recipients have become professional aviation mechanics and pilots. Approximately $108,000 of the scholarship money has been returned to the community through training at the Watsonville Airport.

The latest achievement is the Private Pilot License earned by Jacob Boracca in 2015.  Jacob has become a regular at Watsonville airport, flying as a Young Eagle with EAA Chapter 119, helping run the Young Eagle rallies, flying RC airplanes at RCBees events including the Watsonville Airport open houses and Fly-In/Airshow.  He has been accepted at Embry Riddle in the Aerospace Engineering program.
